“It is important for Lithuania to strengthen its existing and start new friendships with like-minded countries in the Indo-Pacific,” said Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius meeting Ambassador of New Zealand HE Alana Hudson on January 27.
Vice Minister underscored at the meeting that the dynamic shifts in security environment spurs Lithuania to be interested and ready for a meaningful dialogue with the New Zealand.
Ambassador agreed that both nations needed stronger security ties and might locate practical areas for developing projects that match mutual interests.
Cybersecurity was named among the strategic directions that Lithuania invested great effort in and which could be a starting point for talks with New Zealand. Ambassador was briefed on the study into the Chinese-made smartphone security aspect carried by the National Cyber Security Centre, as well as other cybersecurity projects.
It was the first visit to A. Hudson to the Ministry of National Defence. Both sides also exchanged the assessments of the security situation in Europe and the Indo-Pacific. Based in Warsaw, Ambassador of New Zealand accredited to Lithuania also met with representatives of other Lithuanian Ministries and presented the letters of credence to President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda during the visit to Lithuania.
