On December 3–6 Minister of national Defence Robertas Kaunas is on a work trip in the United States where he has been invited to attend the esteemed Reagan National Defence Forum. The Forum brings together political, military, defence industry and media leaders every year to review and assess the political course to strengthen the U.S. national defence taking into regard the global threat environment.
Minister is planned to meet with representatives of the U.S. Administration, the Congress, the Armed Forces and defence industry on the margins of the event.
This year the Reagan National Defence Forum will center on the readiness of the United States and its Allies to deter other major powers, as well as support to advanced defence industry and integration of breakthrough technology, especially the AI, with security and defence systems. The agenda also includes points of transatlantic security, support to Ukraine, the Middle East issues and strengthening military capabilities and personnel.
The U.S. continues to be a strategic partner and one of the key Allies for regional security. The U.S. are particularly actively contributing to security of the Baltic states.
Lithuania has acquired weaponry and equipment worth approx. EUR 2 billion over the past 3 years which makes it the main buyer of U.S. defence goods among the Baltic states. Acquisitions from the U.S. amounts to nearly 20% of Lithuania’s acquisitions in total. The acquired equipment includes: the Javelin anti-tank missile systems, JLTV armored ATVs, Black Hawk helicopters, HIMARS missile artillery systems, AMRAAM missiles for the NASAMS medium range air defence system, Switchblade drones, etc.
