Six participants of the Nordic Programme for CV90 MkIV acquisition signed a technical agreement in Helsinki marking a new milestone in the joint multinational procurement where Lithuania takes part alongside Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, and the Netherlands.
The document signed by representatives of the Defence Materiel Agency details principles of cooperation, technical requirements and a coordinated action plan in the run-up to the signature of the main contract planned in early 2026.
“We continue to work intensely to accelerate the implementation and achieve the most uniform configuration of the vehicles possible across all partners. This is an excellent example of cooperation among regional partners enabling good and quick results. Delivery of the CV90s to Lithuania and other partners is planned starting 2028,” says Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas.
The CV90 MkIV Nordic Programme is unique by its scope and pace. With the national decisions in place barely since late 2024, the planned contract signature will be implemented only a little over a year later, which is a particularly short time in multinational defence projects like this one. The Technical Agreement is a sign that the project is moving forward in a quick and coordinated manner. Lithuania work hand in hand with partnersto get the vehicles to troops at the earliest possible and to ensure the technical platform is uniform and compatible across all programme participants to meet their requirements.
CV90 MkIV is the state of the art configuration of the infantry fighting vehicle produced by Sweden’s BAE Systems Hägglunds. It is safer for the crew, has more advanced control and armaments and is suitable for integration with various national technologies.
The project participants are thus able not just to modernize national armed forces but also to strengthen interoperability and industrial cooperation while enhancing defensive capacity of the Northern European region.
CV90 has been battletested, including in Ukraine, successfully and is operated by many NATO and EU countries.
