On October 13–14 Minister of National Defence Dovilė Šakalienė will conduct a visit to Sweden to meet with Minister of Defence Pal Jonson. They will discuss prospects of bilateral cooperation in the area of defence industry, air defence, and the Baltic Sea security. Ministers will also address support to Ukraine, defence spending and EU defence initiatives, including the Eastern Flank Watch initiative proposed by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to strengthen Ground Wall elements and form a multilayer Drone Wall.
Minister will visit BAE Systems while in Sweden to discuss development of defence industry and cooperation with company representatives.
This summer D. Šakalienė and counterparts of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and the Netherlands signed a Letter of intent on acquisition of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles. The possibility of assembly of the vehicles in Lithuania is also in talks with representatives of BAE Systems Hägglunds.
The Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) is a tracked infantry fighting vehicle designed by Sweden, it has a characteristically high firepower, great mobility and efficient crew safety level. The platform is continuously enhanced to match the demands of the evolving battlefield. Various NATO and EU countries successfully operate the vehicle tested in real-life combat operations, Including Ukraine.
