Lithuania buys M577 armoured personnel carriers to complement units of the Lithuanian Armed Forces 2016.11.30
![]() Units of the Lithuanian Land Force will receive upgraded and well-equipped M577 armoured personnel carriers Lithuania is buying from the German Armed Forces. Representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence of Germany signed a contract on acquiring 168 M577s on November 30 in Vilnius. Total value of the procurement is roughly EUR 1.6 m. |

![]() On December 2 Distinguished Visitors and Media Day of international NATO Exercise Iron Sword 2016 will take place at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area (Švenčionių distr.).
The event is expected to be attended by President of the Republic of Lithuania HE Dalia Grybauskaitė, caretaker Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas, commanders of LITHAF units, and foreign guests. |

Data on interceptions of aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders on November 21 – 27, 2016 2016.11.28
![]() On November 21-27 NATO fighter aircraft conducting the Air Policing Mission in the Baltic States were scrambled four times two intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On November 21 NATO Baltic air policing fighters identified and escorted two Su-27 of the Russian Federation flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia in international airspace over the Baltic Sea. The aircraft did not have flight plans, did not maintain radio contact with air traffic control centres, and their onboard transponders were switched off. |

New patrol ship complements the Lithuanian Navy 2016.11.24
![]() On November 23 patrol ship P15 the Lithuanian Armed Forces had bought from Denmark was transferred to the Lithuanian Navy at a ceremony in Korsør port in Denmark. The new ship will replace 50 years old Storm-class LNS Sėlis (P32) built in Norway that currently use serving in Patrol Ships Division of the Lithuanian Navy. |
