Lithuanian Defence Budget will increase by 32 pct in 2015 to make 1.11 pct of GDP 2014.12.04
![]() Defence allocations to the Ministry of National Defence total EUR 425 m (LTL 1467.5 m), or 1.11 pct of GDP, in the 2015 State and Municipal Budget of Lithuania approved by the Lithuanian Seimas, which is by 32 pct more funds for defence than in 2014 (EUR 321.6 m, or LTL 1110.5 m). |

![]() On December 2 Vice Minister of National Defence Marijus Velička and his delegation conducted a visit at the Federal Ministry of Defence (Germany) and took part in bilateral talks with Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Defence Dr Ralf Brauksiepe. The officials discussed regional security, the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission, NATO exercises, German-Lithuanian defence and security cooperation, and other relevant matters. |

![]() On November 28 Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Keit Pentus-Rosimannus conducting a formal visit in Lithuania.
At the meeting the Ministers discussed security threats to the Baltic countries in the face of changed security situation in the region, and joint efforts of the Baltic States to enhance regional security. |

Communications specialists of the Lithuanian Armed Forces will join three NATO missions in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Turkey as of the beginning of next year 2014.11.28
![]() On November 28 a formal deployment ceremony was held at the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas Headquarters Battalion in Vilnius for communications specialists of the Lithuanian Armed Forces who will be taking part in NATO missions in Afghanistan, Turkey and Kosovo. The soldiers will be completing communications and information systems assignments in mission areas. |

Lithuanian soldiers are training to operate air defence missile systems GROM in Poland 2014.11.27
![]() Purchased for arming the Lithuanian Armed Forces and enhancing defence of its subdivisions and objects against air attacks, the first portion of man-portable air defence system (MANPADS) GROM is due to arrive in Lithuania by the end of this year. Four Lithuanian soldiers are currently deployed in Poland for learning to operate the system. |

Minister J. Olekas met with Ambassador of Hungary 2014.11.27
![]() On November 28 Minister of National Defence of Lithuania met with Ambassador of Hungary in Lithuania Zoltan Pecze.
At the Meeting Minister J.Olekas thanked the Ambassador of Hungary for the military personnel Hungary had deployed to Lithuania as part of the deterrence measures for the Baltic region agreed in NATO. Minister J.Olekas also offered Z. Pecze to consider a possibility of deploying a Hungarian company in Lithuania in the future. Hungary is the first European NATO ally that has sent rotating forces to Lithuania which are now successfully involved in combined training with U.S., Denmark’s and Lithuania’s forces. |

USAREUR Commander Lieutenant General Ben Hodges met with his soldiers in Rukla 2014.11.25
![]() On November 24 Commander of U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) Lieutenant General Ben Hodges paid a call on U.S. troops deployed for combined training with Lithuanian and Hungarian military in Rukla, Lithuania. The General met with the U.S. soldiers and observed them training at the Gaižiūnų Training Area.
Lieutenant General Ben Hodges also discussed cooperation and joint military training with Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika. |

Data on aircraft and vessels identified near the borderline of the Baltic States of November 17-23, 2014 2014.11.24
![]() NATO aircraft on duty in the Baltic Air Policing Mission were scrambled four times from November 17 through 23 to identify aircraft flying in international airspace space over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea in the vicinity of the Baltic States. No incursions into the national airspace of the Republic of Lithuania have been identified. |
