Chairman of NATO Military Committee to visit Lithuania



On 29 April the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola arrives for a two-day official visit to Lithuania. The top military official of the Alliance will be visiting Lithuania at the invitation of the Chief of Defence of the Republic of Lithuania, Lieutenant General Valdas Tutkus.


During the visit Admiral G. Di Paola is scheduled to meet with the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, the Speaker of the Parliament Arūnas Valinskas, the Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius and the Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė


The guest will also visit the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai, where he is scheduled to meet with military personnel of the Air Base and pilots of the Danish Royal Air Force currently involed in the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic States. Later in the day Admiral G. Di Paola will visit the Hill of Crosses.


The NATO Military Committee is the highest military institution providing consultations for the North Atlantic Council, Defence Planning Committee and the Nuclear Planning Group. G. Di Paola chairs all meetings of the NATO Military Committee and represents the committee in the mentioned highest strategic institutions.


For the media: an official meeting ceremony of Adm. G Di Paola will be held on 29 April at 14.40 at the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence (Totorių Str. 25/3, Vilnius).


On 29 April, at 16.45, a press opportunity of the guest will be organised at the Lithuanian Parliament.
