Lithuanian soldiers demined explosives in the capital of Afghanistan province Ghor

On their professional day, 23 of November, deminer soldiers of the fourth Lithuanian led Afghanistan PRT for Ghor blew up 150 items of unguided ”air-to-surface" type missiles. Mine clearance group was lead by Warrant Officer Paulius Neverauskas. Arsenal of the explosives was located in the centre of Chaghcharan, the capital of Ghor province. Missiles were still suitable to use so the soldiers left for the location immediately on receiving the information and fulfilled their task of safe missile destruction professionally.

Three NATO members' fighters will be on duty at the Air Force Aviation base

Three NATO countries' fighters deployed in Lithuanian Air Force Aviation base in Zuokniai will ensure security the upcoming week during the Riga Summit on November 28-29. A total of 12 fighters will be deployed in Siauliai Aviation base during the event: 4 NATO Baltic Air Police mission „Mirage F-1M” fighters from Spain deployed in Lithuania at the moment, 4 Belgium Air force fighters F-16 due to take the responsibility for the Air Police mission from Spain, and 4 F-16 USA fighters coming ad hoc for the event.

An intense agenda, solid tasks, and never-ending struggles for attaining and maintaining necessary modern military equipment -- this is how the day-to-day pulse of the Lithuanian military is being felt. Commander of Lithuanian Army Major General Valdas Tutkus left for NATO Military Committee meeting in Brussels (Belgium) on November 14. During the three-day Military Committee meeting Chiefs of Defence Staff will discuss current issues of the Alliance: preparations for the Riga Summit to be held on November 28-29 and international operations (in Afghanistan and Kosovo).

One more Rapid Effect Project in Ghor province –Koran and carpet donations for mosques

imgAnother Rapid Effect Project implemented by Civil-Military Cooperation service soldiers of Lithuanian PRT for Ghor was concluded last week: for religious community of Ghor province received support. Soldiers used the Lithuanian Republic Government Reserve fund for Rapid Effect Projects to buy 4500 squire metres of carpet covering, 300 Koran books, and 1000 items of The End Book of Koran. Common value of the project amounts to more than 10 thousand USA dollars.

During the EU Defence Ministers meeting in Brussels Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Latvia, and Slovakia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a joint Battle Group formation, November 13. Lithuania's participation in a joint Battle Group with Poland should doubtlessly be viewed in the wide context of Lithuanian-Polish strategic partnership relations, stressed Lithuanian Vice-Minister of National Defence Antanas Valys after signing the agreement.
