Kaunas hosts the VIII International Military Medicine Conference

The VIII International Military Medicine Conference entitled ”Specificities of Medical Assistance in Contemporary Military Operations" will take place in Kaunas on September 12 -13. The conference is arranged by the Military Medicine Service of Lithuanian Army along with Kaunas Medicine University and the Lithuanian Urgent Medicine Association.

Lithuanian officers to take part in an international NATO exercise in Moldova

Six officers of the Lithuanian Army Staff will participate in an international NATO exercise ”Cooperative Longbow 2006" in Kishinev, Moldova, 11 – 20 September. ”Cooperative Longbow 2006" is an exercise for Staff, arranged within the framework of the Partnership for Peace program.

Lithuanian Army Commander attending NATO Military Committee meeting

Lithuanian Armed Forces Commander Major General Valdas Tutkus is attending a meeting of the NATO Military Committee starting in the Polish capital of Poland on Sept. 8-10. The two-day meeting of chiefs of armed forces of NATO member-states is planned to discuss the Alliance's operations, with a focus on the operations of the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) in Afghanistan where Lithuania heads a Provincial Reconstruction Team in the Ghor province.

Visit of the Spanish Air Force Delegation

The Lithuanian Air Force is visited by the Spanish Air Force Delegation, led by Chief Air General Francisco José García De La Vega on September 5 -7. The visit is intended for getting acquainted with the Lithuanian Air Force, conferencing over further cooperation plans, and visiting the contingent of Spanish soldiers, currently performing the function of the Baltic States Air Police.

An advanced Tactics Trainer to start operating in the Combat Training Center

The opening of Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation System is arranged on the General of Lithuanian Army Adolfas Ramanauskas Combat Training Center on September 7. This new and advanced computer-aided soldier training system is introduced with the USA Government assistance. Installation of the trainer was funded under the USA Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program.

Lithuanian troops serving in Kosovo move to new base

imgKFOR-14 detachment of Lithuania's National Defense Volunteer Force serving in the NATO-led peacekeeping mission in the Serbian province of Kosovo has moved to a new base. The detachment has moved from the White Eagle base near Kachanik, where the Polish-Ukrainian POLUKRBAT battalion had been deployed since 1999, to the Bondsteel base of the US Armed Forces.

The Volunteer Force troops left for exercise in UK

The 34 National Defence Volunteer Force platoon left for the ”Irish Otter 2006" exercise in Northern Ireland on September 1. A two-week combat firing and patrolling courses will be delivered for the volunteer troops by the United Kingdom Territorial Army Royal Irish Rangers instructors in Otterburn.

Visit of the North Atlantic Council members to the camp of the Ghor Province Reconstruction Team

imgThe camp of Lithuania-led Ghor Province Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Cagcaran was visited by the delegation of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) members on September 5. The delegation was constituted of NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations Adam Kobieracki, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania on the North Atlantic Council Linas Linkevicius, Permanent Representative of Latvia Janis Eichmanis, Permanent Representative of Island Thorir Ibsen and the accompanying personnel.
