The Ministry of National Defence and the NATO Force Integration Unit Vilnius are continuing the “NATO Day in the region – Come, See, and Learn!” cycle of events and inviting residents of Rokiškis town to meet with NATO soldiers on October 3.

On September 26 the Lithuanian Armed Forces accepted 110 Unimog U5000 trucks of 5t payload manufactured by Germany’s Daimler AG as it is updating its truck fleet with vehicles of the same make as there already are in the fleet.

Rotational troops of Portugal deployed home, medals for distinguished service presented

Farewell ceremony for the rotational troops of Portugal was held at the Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Griffin before their deploying home. The soldiers of Portugal spent four months of training with units of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Griffin and colleagues from the Lithuanian Navy and the Special Operations Forces.

Rotational U.S. force, a battalion-sized unit of over 500 U.S. Army soldiers, will deploy in Lithuania to ensure deterrence and train in exercises shortly in October. The unit is part of the U.S. Army Europe Operation Atlantic Resolve and will be deployed in Lithuania through spring next year.

 

“We have sought for a larger long-term U.S. military involvement in Lithuania and the region consistently and patiently. Therefore the deployment of the U.S. Army battalion for a longer period of time is good and awaited news and a result of our efforts and investment. The U.S. forces is a vital factor of deterrence so it will contribute to NATO efforts in the Baltic region,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis says.

On September 24 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis met with a delegation of Members of Parliament of the United Kingdom. The guests were briefed on the regional security situation and bilateral defence and security cooperation of Lithuania and the United Kingdom at a visit to the Ministry of National Defence.

On September 18 first Defence Attaché of Slovenia Captain (Navy) Gorazd Bartol was accredited to Lithuania at a ceremony at the Ministry of National Defence. The official was welcomed in the new position by Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas.

The visit of the German submarine to Klaipėda Seaport is yet another event that shows the cohesion and solidarity not only of Germany and Lithuania but of all the NATO allies. It sends a clear signal to potential aggressors that NATO countries are united and ready to defend their territory,” Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas said welcoming the U-31 submarine of the German Navy to Klaipėda Seaport on September 18.
