Vice Minister of National Defence V. Umbrasas to take part in the Warsaw Security Forum

On October 24-25 Vice Minister of National Defence will take part in the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland.

Vice Minister will speak at the Plenary Session on NATO deterrence and defence. The session will address the effectiveness and shortcomings of the Alliance’s defence and deterrence measures, the progress in their implementation and new initiatives. Vice Minister will underscore that the NATO measures adopted after 2014 have significantly decreased the probability of military conflict. According to him, NATO member states did what needed to be done to ensure political deterrence.

The session will also focus on the progress made in the implementation of the decisions made at the NATO Heads of State and Government meeting in July earlier this year. Vice Minister will stress that it is worth it for allies and partners to talk and listen to each other because it help understanding common threats and risks. Unity, interaction, solidarity and trust among NATO members leads to long-term, more efficient and more reliable NATO measures of deterrence and defence.

The already traditional Warsaw Security Forum is co-organised by strategic partners – NATO, Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, European Council. The Forum will pull together over 900 high-ranking state officials, experts, and representatives of international organisations from over 50 countries, including Lithuania, to share insights and information.

On October 25 Vice Minister will meet with Deputy Minister of National Defence of Poland Tomasz Szatkowski to discuss prospects for developing bilateral military cooperation, assess implementation of the decisions taken at the NATO Summit, and review regional security.
