On March 19 Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas met with Maj Gen Mykola Sadovskyi, Head of the Department of Military Education, Science, and Social and Humanitarian Policy of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and Chief of S.P. Korolev Military Institute of Zhytomyr Maj Gen Oleksandr Levchenko.

On March 13-15 Vice Minister of National Defence Giedrimas Jeglinskas observed tests of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) in Bedford while on visit in the United Kingdom. Vice Minister also met with representatives of the UK Ministry of Defence and the Belgian Defense Directorate General for Material Resources and discussed challenges of adapting the JLTV for national needs and EU standards.

On March 14 Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas conducted a visit in Sweden and met with his counterpart State Secretary to the Minister for Defence Jan Salestrand. The officials discussed bilateral cooperation, security situation in the Baltic Sea region, shared information on the development of Lithuania’s and Sweden’s armed forces development.

On March 15 Vie Minister of National Defence Edvinas Kerza met with First Deputy Minister of Defence of Georgia Lela Chikovani during a visit in Georgia. They exchanged plans of bilateral cooperation and discussed security situation in the region, and the prospects for deepening interaction of both countries’ cyber security authorities.

On March 13 Secretary General of the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) Major General Roger Van Hoof, MD, and a delegation paid a visit to Lithuania.

The guests were welcomed by Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas who stressed that cooperation of military medics of many countries could bring good healthcare results during military operations ,and multinational in particular.

Tuesday, March 13, Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis met with newly appointed Minister of National Defence of Poland Mariusz Błaszczak. The Ministers met on the margins of nine Eastern and Central European NATO members’ defence ministers’ meeting in Bucharest.

 

R. Karoblis and M. Blaszczak discussed topical bilateral cooperation aspects and opportunities for joining efforts in implementing the adaptation of the NATO Command Structure and seeking strengthened regional security and defence, particularly air defence.

“Russia is an objective conventional threat, and its military power demonstration, intensifying cyber and information attacks, as well as the ambition to become the greatest military power in the world, says that our key task remains to be the enhancement of the Alliance’s deterrence and collective defence, and the ability to respond to the present-day challenges in the region,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis stated at the Defence Ministers’ meeting of Eastern and Central European NATO allies on March 13 in Bucharest.
