France joins the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion in Lithuania, the French contingent has already deployed in full

After serving as part of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Estonia in 2017, the French contingent is joining the German-led NATO eFP in Lithuania in 2018 to serve alongside other allies’ contingents in Rukla integrated into the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

Lithuanian land and U.S. air forces to train at Kazlų Rūda Training Area

On January 11-12 soldiers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the 5th Bomb Wing, U.S. Air Force, will train together at Kazlų Training Area.

 

The training will involve U.S. bombers and Lithuania’s Tactical Air Control Parties and rehearse communication between Lithuanian and U.S. troops, coordination of actions, and ability to expeditiously fulfil assignments requiring high qualification.

On January 15 President of the Republic of Lithuania HE Dalia Grybauskaitė and Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis will meet with Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Minister of Defence Claus Hjort Frederiksen of the Kingdom of Denmark condicting an official visit in Lithuania.

On January 11 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis met with Peter Hultqvist, Minister of Defence of Sweden on a formal visit in Lithuania. At a bilateral meeting Ministers discussed security situation in the Baltic Sea region, exchanged information on efforts to develop national capabilities, increase resilience of the society to hybrid threats and modernisation of armed forces.

On January 11 Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis will meet with Minister of Defence of Sweden Peter Hultqvist who will be conducting a formal visit in Lithuania.  Ministers will discuss the security situation in the region, bilateral defence cooperation between Lithuania and Sweden and the efforts to strengthen national capabilities. The meetings will also be attended by Vice Ministers of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas and Edvinas Kerza, Lithuania’s cybersecurity situation and cyber-capability consolidation will be presented.

“The NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states, along with the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Groups, is a vital factor of deterrence and defence measures in the entire region,” Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas said welcoming the Danish Air Contingent at the changeover ceremony of the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission on January 8.

On January 5 a Danish Air Force Detachment landed with four F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft in Šiauliai Air Base of the Lithuanian Air Force to carry out next rotation of the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states.

On January 3 the Government of the Republic of Lithuania approved the decision to allot nearly EUR 415 thousand for maintenance and development of the Afghan National Security Forces in 2018-2020. The money will be transferred to the Trust Fund Lithuania used to contribute USD 500 thousand payments to in the past. The main contributor to the Trust Fund is the United States of America.
