Data on interceptions of aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders on January 22 – 28, 2018

On January 22-28 NATO fighter aircraft conducting the Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states carried out one alert scramble to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

 

On January 25 NATO fighters were scrambled to intercept one SU-34 of the Russian Federation on its way from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. The crew did not have a pre-filed flight plan, did not use onboard transponder, and did not maintain radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre.
