Minister of National Defence will attend Media and Distinguished Visitors Day of multinational Exercise Iron Wolf II

On October 27 Distinguished Visitors and Media Day of multinational Exercise Iron Wolf II will take place the Lithuanian Armed Forces General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area (Švenčionys distr.). Exercise participants will take part in a demonstration defensive operation, a display of equipment and weapons will be available for DV Day attendees, leadership of the Ministry of National Defence, Lithuanian Armed Forces and the exercise will be available for interviewing.

 

DV and Media Day will be attended by Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis, acting Chief of Defence Brigadier Valdemaras Rupšys, Chief of Operations Command of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Joint Staff Colonel Raimundas Vaikšnoras, Commander of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf Colonel Mindaugas Steponavičius, Commander of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania Lieutenant Colonel Thorsten Gensler.

 

Exercise Iron Wolf II is running on October 18-31. It involves over 2.3 thousand soldiers from 12 NATO countries, HQ element of the Multinational Corps Northeast Command and the Lithuanian Air Force.

 

The exercise trains and assesses planning and conduct of defensive and offensive operations abilities in the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group attached to the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf and the Lithuanian Grand Duchess Birutė Uhlan Mechanised Infantry Battalion, ad also refine interoperability with NATO allies.

The opening part of the exercise took place at Gaižiūnai (Rukla) and General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Areas. Currently the training audience is also practicing operating in civilian areas near the military training areas.

 

Iron Wolf II is the annual Exercise Iron Wolf organised by the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf.

 

The multinational NATO eFP Battle Group deployed since the beginning of the year and fully formed in May is led by Germany. Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Norway contributed troops to the eFP Battle Group. Aside from the countries forming the NATO eFP Battle Group and Lithuania, there is also military personnel of the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, U.S., Poland and Slovakia are training together in Lithuania.

Distinguished Guests and Media Day of Exercise Iron Wolf II is planned to take place on October 27 at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė. It will feature a dynamic display of a joint defensive operation, a static display of equipment and weapons, leadership of the Ministry of National Defence, Lithuanian Armed Forces and the exercise will be available for interviewing (only registered and accredited media representatives admitted).

 

Media representatives are invited to cover a visit by Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and President of the Republic of Lithuania HE Dalia Grybauskaitė to General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė that will take place before the DV Day event of Exercise Iron Wolf II (only registered and accredited media representatives admitted).

 

The visit is held to meet with the soldiers of Luxembourg deployed in Lithuania as  NATO eFP and training at Exercise Iron Wolf II. They arrived in Lithuania in July 2017. The platoon provides logistical support to the multinational unit. Luxembourg’s soldiers also brought their own logistical support equipment, roughly 10 cargo trucks of different modifications, via Klaipėda Seaport.
