On October 28 Commander U.S. Army Europe Lieutenant General Frederick B. Hodges visited Exercise Iron Wolf 2 at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area and discussed the activities of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group currently deployed in Lithuania, as well as multinational exercises planned to take place next year.

 

Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Brigadier General Valdemaras Rupšys, Commander of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf Colonel Mindaugas Steponavičius, and Commander of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania Lieutenant Colonel Thorsten Gensler met with the U.S. General on a visit in Lithuania.

 

“Leadership in the multinational battalion by Germany is exactly what we need,” Lt Gen F. B. Hodges said. The meeting Generals underscored the success of integration of the eFP Battle Group into the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf and the effectiveness of the combat training.

 

Lt Gen F. B. Hodges is a huge supporter of security interest of Lithuania and the entire region. Lithuania has received a particularly strong U.S. support to in the form of stronger deterrence and resilience to potential threats since he became the Commander of the U.S. Army Europe in November 2014. Rotational U.S. companies The strong support of Lt Gen B. Hodges resulted in the U.S. deploying rotational companies in Lithuania, closer cooperation in defence planning and joint training to counter potential threats.

 

Exercise Iron Wolf II is running on October 18-31. It involves over 2.3 thousand soldiers from 12 NATO countries, HQ element of the Multinational Corps Northeast Command and support by the Lithuanian Air Force. Part of the training in, a U.S. company from the NATO eFP in Poland also joined the event.
