Data on interceptions of aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders on October 23-29, 2017

On October 23-29 NATO fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled twice to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

 

On October 25 NATO fighters identified and escorted one An-26 flying from the mainland of the Russian Federation to Kaliningrad. It had a flight plan, the onboard transponder was switched off, the crew maintained radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre.

 

On October 27 NATO fighter aircraft identified and escorted one An-26 flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia. The An-26 had a flight plan, the transponder was off, the crew kept radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre.

During the same scramble on October 27 the NATO fighters intercepted on An-27 flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad according to a pre-filed flight plan, with onboard transponder on, and keeping radio contact with air traffic control.
