U.S. Air Force to lead NATO Baltic Air Policing mission

The US Air Force 48th Fighter Wing has deployed approximately 140 Airmen and seven F-15C Eagles as the 48th Air Expeditionary Group to Siauliai Air Base, Lithuania to assume control of the NATO Baltic Air Policing peacetime collective defense mission Aug. 29, 2017.On 30 August the ceremony at the Air Base of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in Šiauliai where Poland will turnover lead of the mission to the United States will be held.

 

ViceMinister of Defence of Lithuania Vytautas Umbrasas, Commander of Joint Headquarters of the Lithuanian Armed FOrces  Major General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras, Gen. Tod D. Wolters, U.S. Air Forces in Europe; U.S. Air Forces Africa; and NATO Allied Air Command commander, as well as other distinguished guests are scheduled to take part in the ceremony.

 

Air Policing is a standing NATO peacetime task designed to preserve the integrity of allies' sovereign airspace. This marks the fifth rotation in which the U.S. has supported this mission to protect Baltic airspace, and it demonstrates a long-standing commitment to this NATO mission.

International media representatives are invited to attend the Baltic Air Policing Handover-Takeover ceremony on Aug. 30, 2017, at Šiauliai Air Base, Lakunu street 3, Lithuania. Foreign media representatives also freelance reporters willing to cover the event must register and apply for accreditation by filling by filling in the questionnaire form and sending it altogether with the copies of passport and media card to [email protected].   Note. The staff of the MoD Strategic Communication and Public Affairs Department might ask to present a formal request by the editor-in-chief of a media outlet.
