Minister of National Defence met with members of the U.S. Congress

High U.S. officials arrived in Lithuania to express solidarity and to look into more options for the United States Congress to contribute to the security in the region. The guests are members of the Helsinki Commission which advises the U.S. Congress on the U.S. policy matters dealt with at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

First shift of the Dutch detachment farewelled after their tour of duty with the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion, next rotation to deploy soon

On July 4 soldiers who had served as the first shift of the Netherlands Armed Forces in the NATO enhanced Forward Presence were decorated and farewelled at a ceremony at the Mechanised Infantry Brigades Iron Wolf in Rukla. The leaving troops will be replaced by the next shift of soldiers of the Kingdom of the Netherlands one as soon as next week.

NATO and Lithuania agreed on cyber security enhancement in Brussels

On July 6 Vice Minister of National Defence Edvinas Kerza and NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges Ambassador Sorin Ducaru signed an agreement in Brussels that enhances Lithuanian and NATO cooperation in cyber security. Cyber-attacks do not fall whining geographical borders, therefore exchange of information and best practices has to be carried out. The agreement will facilitate coordination of cyber capabilities development with the Alliance, ensure better interoperability with NATO allies, and will make information exchange or rendering assistance to Lithuania in case of necessity easier.

On July 4 deployment ceremony was held at the Joint Staff HQ for Lithuanian Armed Forces soldiers leaving for the NATO-led multinational Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan and the U.S.-led multinational mission in Iraq Inherent Resolve.

On June 26 – July 2 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled once to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

On July 4 deployment ceremony will be held at the Joint Staff HQ for Lithuanian Armed Forces soldiers leaving for the NATO-led multinational Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan and the U.S.-led multinational mission in Iraq Inherent Resolve.

 

The deployment ceremony will be attended by Chief of the Joint Staff Major General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras, commanders and families of the deployed soldiers, and other guests.

UPDATE: the visit has been cancelled.

 

On July 3 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis is leaving to attend inauguration of the NATO Multinational Division North-East Headquarters in Elbląg, Poland.

 

Opening of the HQ was also welcomed by the Ministers of Defence of host and framework nations of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence in the Baltic states and Poland at the meeting in Brussels on June 29. The Ministers underscored in the declaration signed at the meeting that activation of the Multinational Division North-East Headquarters in Elbląg was another pivotal step in the implementation of the Warsaw Summit decisions that will allow NATO to implement collective defence in the eastern part of the Alliance more efficiently.
