On July 13 Defence Attaché of Finland in Lithuania changed over at a ceremony at the Ministry of National Defence. After holding the position since August 2014 Commander Jussi Parttyli Voutilainen onceded to Lieutenant Colonel Antti Edvard Hauvala.

On July 11 multinational ground-based air defence exercise Tobruq Legacy 2017 for the first time held in Lithuania was officially opened at the Lithuanian Air Force Air Base.

 

“Dear colleagues - brothers in arms, it is my honour to welcome you at Lithuanian Air force Šiauliai Air base This is the first time will NATO will work in Lithuania and in Romania and the Czech Republic to test technical interoperability and air defence procedures to fill up all raised task in accordance with Article 5 of NATO Treaty. On behalf of the Lithuanian Armed Forces I would like to express my appreciation to all participating countries, especially to the U.S. for the significant support in organizing and conducting the exercise that strengthens the entire Alliance,” Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Colonel Dainius Guzas said in his remarks at the opening ceremony.

On July 7 Vice Minister of National Defence Giedrimas Jeglinskas met with representatives of the European Commission and the European Defence Agency in Brussels. The meetings focused on the establishment of the European Defence Fund and the opportunities for Lithuanian enterprises to take part in the projects of the Fund. At the meeting with Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency Jorge Domecq Lithuania’s participation in the EU capability development projects was discussed.
