Data on interceptions of aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders on July 17-23, 2017


On July 17-23 fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled once to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.


On July 21 NATO air policing aircraft were scrambled to intercept one An-26 and one An-140 of the Russian Federation flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad in international airspace over the Baltic Sea. The An-26 had a flight plan and kept radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre but its onboard transponder was not switched on, the AN-140 had a flight plan, maintained radio contact and used onboard transponder.
