Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force presented to the public largest exercise this year Iron Wolf 2017

On June 12 -23 large scale multinational military exercise Iron Wolf 2017 will be held in Lithuania. The exercise will involve roughly 5.300 of military personnel from Lithuania and eight more NATO allies: Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United States.

On June 4-8 Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis is conducting a visit in the United States of America. He will attend a conference held by the Atlantic Council think tank regarding enhancement of security in North-Eastern Europe, and meet with high-ranking U.S. officials.

Today the Ministers of Defence of the Baltic States discussed security and defence and agreed on concrete measures to enhance collective defence at a meeting in Daugavpils, Latvia. “We appreciate NATO input into the security in the region, and we are completely confident about this partnership, still, we have to put in every effort of our own, security, defence, political or financial, to increase our contribution to collective defence . I am certain that together the Baltic states can contribute to collective defence significantly,” Minister of National Defence R.Karoblis says while in Daugavpils. According to him, when faced with new challenges, unity of the Baltic stance on collective defence is vital as never before. “Only if we speak as one can we become stronger and be supported by allies,” the Minister said.

Belgium has deployed the second rotation of the company it contributes to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battalion in Rukla. The new Belgian contingent is formed by troops from the 29th Logistics Battalion based in Grobbendonk.

“NATO thanks Lithuania as host nation for a substantial contribution to the Alliance communications Exercise Steadfast Cobalt,” Vice minister of National Defence Edvinas Kerza said at the closing ceremony of NATO Communications and Information Systems Group’s Exercise Steadfast Cobalt 2017 on June 1.
