Arms control inspectors of Sweden and the U.S. will carry out a verification flight over Lithuania

Arms control inspectors of Sweden and the United States will carry out an observation flight over Lithuania in a SAAB 340B of the Swedish Air Force with dedicated equipment on June 14-15 It is the first flight by foreign countries’ arms control inspectors over Lithuania this year.

“Lithuania invests into protection of national critical infrastructure and pays great attention to the readiness to properly respond to cyberattacks. We have not only advanced technologies at the National Cyber Security Centre but first and foremost – professionals who operate the systems in an efficient way,” Vice Minister of National Defence Edvinas Kerza said at a meeting with President of Slovenia Borut Pahor and President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on June 13.

On June 8 Major Jane Witt was accredited as the new British Defence Attaché in Lithuania. At an accreditation ceremony she took over from Commander Gary Brooks who held the position since 2015 and will proceed as Defence Attaché to Estonia.

Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis met with Governor of Pennsylvania Thomas Wolf at the Pennsylvania Capitol in Harrisburg. The Minister underscored close relations between Lithuania and Pennsylvania. According to him, Lithuania’s relations with the U.S. are further strengthening and Pennsylvania may be Lithuania’s gateway. Significant Lithuania’s achievements in natural sciences and the level of development of IT sector, that could be a great spur for mutual trade and investment, were emphasised at the meeting. The Minister also proposed establishing relations between cyber defence communities.

On June 6 Vice Minister of National Defence Giedrimas Jeglinskas underscored the importance of security and defence cooperation with Sweden to Lithuania and the other Baltic states at a meeting with members of the Defence Commission of Sweden. At a meeting at the Ministry of National Defence the Vice Minister thanked the Swedish guests for lasting support to the Lithuanian Armed Forces and discussed security situation in the region. National efforts to strengthen defence capabilities of the country were also outlined for the members of the Defence Commission.
