Minister of National Defence R.Karoblis to sign declaration on the implementation of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence in Brussels


On June 29 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis will attend the NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting in Brussels. The meeting will address current matters on NATO agenda regarding seeking enhanced defence and deterrence and fulfilling the commitment of increased defence spending. The Ministers are also expected to discuss development of the EU-NATO cooperation, counter-terrorism efforts, the NATO Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.


At the meeting Defence Ministers of the enhanced Forward Presence host and framework nations are planned to sign a common declaration of the on the implementation of enhanced Forward Presence. The four NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battle Groups are deployed in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland as a result of the decision taken in July last year at the NATO Summit in Warsaw to strengthen the eastern flank of the Alliance. Framework nations for the high readiness, robust and combat-ready battle groups deployed in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland to ensure deterrence and defence are Germany, Canada, UK and the U.S. respectively.
