NATO Defence Ministers agreed to increase forces in Afghanistan 2017.06.30
![]() On June 29 NATO Ministers of Defence agreed to strengthen forces and increase troop levels in Afghanistan during the meeting in Brussels.
NATO has been conducting the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan since early 2015. The mission is designed to train the Afghan national security forces and encompasses non-combat tasks. The aim of the mission is to train, advise and assist the national security forces and authorities to ensure stability in the country. |

![]() On June 29 Defence Ministers of the enhanced Forward Presence host and framework nations signed a common declaration on the on the implementation of NATO enhanced Forward Presence at a meeting in Brussels.
The declaration states that the battlegroups deployed in the Baltic states and Poland are fully manned and capable of deterring any aggression or responding to it side by side with national forces in case it is necessary. |

![]() On June 29 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis will attend the NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting in Brussels. The meeting will address current matters on NATO agenda regarding seeking enhanced defence and deterrence and fulfilling the commitment of increased defence spending. The Ministers are also expected to discuss development of the EU-NATO cooperation, counter-terrorism efforts, the NATO Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan. |

![]() On June 27 the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania approved the draft of the Resolution of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania on the Amendment to the Resolution of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania No. XII-2232 of 22 December 2015 regarding Deployment of Military Units of the Republic of Lithuania to Multinational Operations tabled by Minister of National Defence R.Karoblis and Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Linkevičius. It was decided to permit deployment of up to 60 civilian and military personnel of the National Defence System to a military training operation in Ukraine as of 1 July 2017 in order to provide training for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. |

Violation of Lithuanian airspace has been recorded 2017.06.22
![]() On June 21 the Lithuanian Air Force recorded two breaches of state border of the Republic of Lithuania in national airspace near Dubičiai and Musteika (Varėna district). One An-2 civilian aircraft flew into Lithuanian airspace twice as recorded, at 02.03-02-17 p.m. and 02-14-02-17 p.m. Lithuanian time. The violation has been recorded on airspace surveillance equipment and observed visually. |
