Rotational force of the Czech Republic finished their mission in Lithuania

Czech soldiers with the 74th Light Motorised Battalion, 7th Brigade, finished joint training in Lithuania that they had been taking part in since January 10, 2017.

 

After completing the training with the Lithuanian Grand Duke Kęstutis Mechanised Infantry Battalion the Czech rotational troops were awarded the Lithuanian Armed Forces Medals for Mutual Support on March 17.

On March 15 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis met with Ambassador of Moldova in Lithuania HE Valeriu Frija. At the meeting defence cooperation between Lithuania and Moldova was discussed and called successful and active. The meeting officials also discussed security situation in the region, hybrid threats caused by Russia, spread of hostile propaganda, possible measures to increase the resilience of the two countries’ societies to such threats.

On March 17 Director of Security and Defence Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland (the highest security, defence and military affairs of Iceland, equivalent to the chief of defence) Arnór Sigurjónsson is conducting his first formal visit to Lithuania.

“I am confident that peace, security and stability of the Baltic region is on the minds of many throughout the world. We are firmly committed to NATO and to standing shoulder to shoulder with our allies. U.S. servicemembers will rotate through the Baltic region to participate in joint exercises,” Commander of the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Curtis M. Scaparrotti said on March 16 during his first official visit in Lithuania.

On March 14 members of the Defence Committee of the Germany Bundestag visited Rukla with Vice Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Vytautas Umbrasas: they met with soldiers of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battalion Battlegroup led by Germany, and observed the first joint exercise of the NATO eFP troops and soldiers with the Grand Duchess Birutė Uhlan Battalion of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf.

On March 14 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis and Vice Minister Vytautas Umbrasas met with a delegation of the Defence Committee of the German Bundestag on a visit in Lithuania. A bilateral meeting of German and Lithuanian delegations addressed security situation, bilateral cooperation, and activities of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battalion Battlegroup deployed in Lithuania to which Germany is the framework nation.

On March 16 Commander of the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Curtis M. Scaparrotti is conducting his first official visit in Lithuania since assuming the duties since last May.

 

In Vilnius General C. M. Scaparrotti will meet with President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas, other representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and commanders of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battalion Battlegroup in Lithuania and the NATO Force Integration (NFIU) Unit.

The agency will operate in full capacity and process 95% of all acquisitions of the national defence system as soon as next January

 

On March the Defence Resource Council of the Ministry of National Defence approved the national defence system public procurement reform which centres on the establishment of a centralised national defence system procurement agency based on the model of foreign agencies.

On March a delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly paid a visit to the Ministry of National Defence. The guests were welcomed by Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis and Chief of  the Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Major General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras.
