Commander U.S. Army Europe Lieutenant General F. Hodges to visit Lithuania

On March 1 Commander of the U.S. Army Europe Lieutenant General Frederick Benjamin “Ben” Hodges will visit Lithuania. In Vilnius General meet with Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis and Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas.

On March 1 Minister of Defence Martin Stropnický and Chief of Defence of the Czech Republic General Josef Becvaro are coming on a working visit to Lithuania. The purpose of their visit is to meet with Czech soldiers training here with Lithuanian colleagues. At the trip to Lithuania the guests are planned to hold a brief meeting with Lithuania’s Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis and Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas at the airport.

On February 24 main military equipment of the mechanised infantry battalion of the Bundeswehr was brought to Lithuania for the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battalion by railway. The batch includes 20 Marder IFVs, one Dachs engineer tank, one Bergepanzer armoured repair and recovery, 5 Leopard tanks, and one Biber armoured bridge-layer.

On February 24 military equipment of the mechanised infantry battalion of the Bundeswehr will be brought to Lithuania from Grafenwöhr (Germany) by railway. Roughly 60 items, including Leopard tanks, Marder IFVs, Dachs engineer tanks, and other vehicles, will equip one of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) maneuver companies.

On February 21 Lithuanian Armed Forces Major Mangirdas Vaznys was  awarded the Star of Afghanistan Medal by decree of the President of Poland HE Andrzej Duda. The officer who is currently serving with the Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces received the medal for merits in the Resolute Support Mission, Afghanistan, 2016d

Two new Vice Ministers of National Defence Giedrimas Jeglinskas and Edvinas Kerza come into office as of February 20. They will be in charge of procurement and acquisition, and cyber security, hybrid resilience, and budget shaping and implementation at the national defence system.

“There may be more of information attacks as NATO improves security of its eastern borders,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis said on February 16 at a session of the NATO Defence Ministers meeting dedicated to the implementation of the NATO Summit in Warsaw decisions on enhanced deterrence and defence. The Lithuanian Minister and his German counterpart were solid in stressing together that hostile forces would try to compromise the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battalion, so all Allies had to be ready to immediately counter information attacks.
