Defense operations in the Baltic States are trained during Command Post Exercise in Lithuania

International atmosphere is prevalent at the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ Adolfas Ramanauskas Warfare Training Nemenčinė - around six hundred and a half military personnel from Estonia, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania and the USA are training to plan and conduct defense operations.

 

Command Post Exercise (CPX) of the Danish Division and the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian infantry brigades affiliated to it running from June 1 is for the first time joined by staff personnel of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

On June 9 Minister of National Defence discussed bilateral cooperation, exchange of air and maritime surveillance data, Baltic-Nordic defence cooperation and other defence and security issues at a meeting with Ambassador of Finland Harri Maki-Reinikka at the Ministry of National Defence.

 

Minister J.Olekas underscored the enhancement of bilateral Lithuanian-Finnish and regional cooperation as well as the cooperation in the format of NATO partnerships.

On June 1 through 7 NATO air policing fighter jets protecting the Baltic airspace were scrambled three times to intercept aircraft of the Russian Federation approaching the Baltic States’ borders.

On June 8 Field Training Exercise (FTX), Phase II of Exercise Saber Strike 15, was formally declared open at the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė and the parade ground of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion.

Minister of National Defence met with Lithuanian troops in Afghanistan

Having arrived in Afghanistan on June 6 to visit Lithuanian soldiers, Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas met with members of the Lithuanian contingent serving in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, and in Herat. The Minister also met with soldiers of the Special Operations Forces Squadron deployed in Kandahar, southern Afghanistan, and Lithuanian staff officers.

After  thirtheen years of participation in Afghanistan Lithuania completed  her ever longest nonstop international mission abroad.  On 7 June  the Lithuanian flags were lowered as a symbol of the completed mission by the Lithuanian Special Operations Forces. The official ceremony was held with the presence of the Lithuanian Minister of National Defence, Mr. Juozas Olekas.

On June 6 two Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft landed at Vilnius International Airport bringing soldiers of the 56th Stryker Brigade of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and its military materiel, to take part in international Exercise Saber Strike 15, to Vilnius International Airport.

On June 5 through 20 an international Exercise BALTOPS 15 will take place in the territorial waters and exclusive economic zones of Poland, Denmark, and Germany in the Baltic Sea. Intense naval drills will involve 49 vessels, 61 aircraft and over 5 thousand military personnel from 17 NATO member and partner states. The LNS Žemaitis (P11) patrol vessel, and the LNS Skalvis (M53) and the LNS Kuršis (M54) mine countermeasures vessels are taking part in the exercise on Lithuania’s behalf.

On June 8 Exercise Saber Strike 15 will opened by official ceremonies at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė and the parade ground of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion in Rukla. The total of over 2 thousand soldiers from 7 NATO member states, Canada, France, Germany, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovenia and the United States, will line up in both sites for the opening ceremonies of Exercise Saber Strike 15.
