Exercise Saber Strike 15 will begin with an official opening ceremony

On June 8 Exercise Saber Strike 15 will opened by official ceremonies at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė and the parade ground of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion in Rukla. The total of over 2 thousand soldiers from 7 NATO member states, Canada, France, Germany, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovenia and the United States, will line up in both sites for the opening ceremonies of Exercise Saber Strike 15.

 

The ceremony at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė will be attended by Commander Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika and Deputy Chief of Staff, USAREUR, Major General Mark McQueen. Canadian, German, Lithuanian, Portuguese, Slovenian and U.S. troops will line up in the parade at 10.00 a.m.

 

The official opening ceremony at 1.00 p.m. in the parade ground of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion in Rukla will be attended by the leadership of the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuanian Armed Forces which will declare the exercise open and salute the parading German, Lithuanian, French and U.S. troops.

 

The international Exercise Saber Strike 15 is running concurrently in the three Baltic States and Poland on June 1-19. Held in two largest Lithuania’s military training areas, the Lithuanian-hosted part of the exercise is aimed at training interoperability in allies units, coordination of actions, and readiness to compete defensive and offensive operations.

The MoD transport will depart from in front of the ministry of National Defence on June 8 at 8.30 a.m.

Saber Strike is an annual exercise held by the U.S. Army Europe in the Baltic States. Saber Strike 15 is the fifth iteration of the series held in Lithuania. The part of the exercise in Lithuania will involve roughly 1.6 thousand Lithuanian military and 1.5 thousand troops from 8 NATO countries – Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Portugal, USA, Germany, Slovenia and Canada. The goal of the U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) -led Exercise Saber Strike 15 is to train and hone cooperation among allied forces in planning and completion of military operations, enhancing soldiers’ competence and training provision of Host Nation Support.

 

Roughly 1 thousand of Portuguese, US and German military personnel have brought an impressive arsenal of military armament for the FTX in Lithuania: the ABRAMS tanks, the STRYKER, the BOXER, the PANDUR and the FUCHS wheeled armoured personnel carriers and the EAGLE IV and the DINGO II armoured reconnaissance vehicles. Allied troops have been training with this equipment in combined exercises in Lithuania since April.
