Distinguished Visitor Day of Special Forces Exercise Flaming Sword 2015 will be held

On May 29 Distinguished Visitors Day of international Exercise Flaming Sword 2015 organised by the Special operations Forces of the Lithuanian Armed Forces will be held in Pajuostis (Panevėžio distr.). Distinguished visitors will be invited to hear a presentation on the exercise, observe a dynamic display, and a static display of the weaponry, equipment and vehicles used in the exercise by the participating nations and institutions.

On May 21 the largest national exercise Lithuania held this year, Exercise Lightning Strike 15, was declared closed. The first of the kind, the exercise tested various of types of situations - a speedy mobilisation of the Lithuanian reserve, actions in case of a hybrid warfare and terrorist attacks, and tactical training.

On May 8 leadership of national defence attended events marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II paying the tribute to the war victims.

Norwegian and Italian air contingents took over the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission

On April 30 air contingents conducting the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission  changed over at a rotation ceremony at the Šiauliai Airbase. A Norwegian air contingent replaced Italian troops who had been conducting the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission and Polish troops who had been strengthening the mission for four months. The Norwegian Air Contingent will patrol the Baltic skies with four F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft, while the Italian air contingent will not head home but stay to strengthen the new rotation of the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission with their Eurofighter Typhoons instead.

Military personnel of the reconnaissance company of the Portuguese Armed Forces have arrived for combined training in Lithuania with heavy military materiel - PANDUR and VBR V600 armoured vehicles with integrated 120mm mine-throwers, all-terrain vehicles, and others. They are taking part in combat training events and exercises of various levels together with the Reconnaissance Company of the command of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade (MIB) Iron Wolf.

On April 27 through 28 brigade staff-level exercises were conducted in Rukla and Alytus by the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf and the U.S. Army’s 1-3 Infantry Brigade of the rotating U.S. forces in Lithuania.

 

According to Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika, the benefit of such exercises for both sides is that they involve units with different experience which analyse and plan complex operations together.

On April 27  four F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft of the new NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission contingent of the Norwegian Air Force landed at the Šiauliai Airbase.

 

On April 30 the air contingents conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic States will change at a formal ceremony at the Šiauliai Air Base of the Lithuanian Air Force: a Norwegian contingent will take over from Italian troops. The Norwegian contingent will patrol the Baltic skies with four F-16 Fighting Falcons while the Norwegian contingent will total roughly 90 experts in various areas.

On April 27 defence cooperation between Lithuania and Hungary, security situation in the region, and contribution to multinational operations was discussed at the Ministry of National Defence. The Ambassador of Hungary in Lithuania, Zoltan Pecze, also introduced to representatives of the Ministry of National Defence the newly appointed Deputy Defence Attaché of Hungary in Lithuania, Brigadier General Nándor Kilián.

Public and Military Day will come to Marijampolė for the first time

Partisan Tributing, Public and Military Day that scored over 10 thousand participants last year in Vilnius, will invite all the people of Lithuania to Marijampolė on May 17.

 

The largest annual public-military event will give the public and opportunity to see all the services of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in the city centre of Marijampolė this year. The Lithuanian Land Force will be involved particularly numerously – from a handgun to an artillery gun, from an all-terrain vehicle to an armoured vehicle, every aspect of infantry warfare will be presented to the public.
