“We welcome the decision taken by the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress to approve the draft U.S. Defence Budget stipulating additional financing for the European Security Initiative,” Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas said expressing his appreciation of the results of the vote at the House of Representatives. “This is a crucial step for the United States of America on the road of further implementation of the NATO measures endorsed at the Summit in Wales for enhancing security of the Baltic States and Eastern Europe.“

“I am very happy that the vote has taken place nearly simultaneously with the Lithuanian Seimas’ approval of the Lithuanian Defence Budget encompassing a defence financing upgraded by one third nearly in comparison to last year. This was a critical step for Lithuania. The will to increase defence spending primarily proves our own responsible approach to national defence and a staunch fulfilment of our commitments, and our solidarity with our strategic ally that support us, the United States, and the Alliance a whole,” Minister J.Olekas said.
