Vilnius Conference 2014 will mark the 10th anniversary of Lithuania’s NATO membership

The President’s Office and Ministries of Foreign Affairs and National Defence have arranged an international Vilnius Conference 2014 in collaboration with the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence, Vytautas Magnus University and the Centre for Geopolitical Studies. The event will take place  at the Presidential Palace on April 3-4.

The main theme of the conference is NATO’s open door policy. At the event discussions will be held on the importance of NATO enlargement and future vision for the Alliance and partner countries’ role in it.

This year is marked by the 10th anniversary of Lithuania's and 6 more countries' accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO. Vilnius Conference 2014 is an opportunity to celebrate the occasion as well as to address NATO open door policy in the context of the upcoming NATO Summit that Wales will host in September.

Among the participants of the conference there will be current and former foreign and defence ministers of the Alliance’s member states and partner countries, NATO officials, and representatives of scientific research centres and the academic community.

On the first day of the conference, April 3, foreign and defence ministers will pay a visit to the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai, the operating base for aircrews and fighter jets of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission for a decade already. The ministers will be briefed on the Baltic air policing tasks and participating air assets.
