NATO border is a red line that no aggressor is allowed to trespass, NATO representative says



On March 27–28 the Commander NATO Allied Joint Force Command (JFC) Brunssum (The Netherlands), General Hans Lothar Domröse, is conducting a visit to Lithuania.


The senior NATO official met with Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius, and other Lithuanian defence representatives at the Ministry of National Defence.


At the meetings the possibilities of updating the contingency plans for the Baltic States in were discussed consideration of the changed security situation in the Baltic region and Europe following the Crimea crisis. The prospects of maintaining high intensity of NATO exercises in the Baltic region were also addressed.


At a meeting with Lithuania’s national defence leadership the NATO representative underscored that NATO was an effective organisation where every member was committed to the security of other members and stood ready to fulfil that commitment. According to General Domröse, NATO border was the red line of which there was no trespassing.


The delegation of General Domröse also paid a visit to the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence in Vilnius.


Prior to visiting Lithuania, Commander NATO Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum paid duty calls to Latvia and Estonia.


General Domröse last visited Lithuania in October 2013 during preparations for NATO exercise Steadfast Jazz 2013.

Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum is an operational NATO headquarters in charge of planning and leading allied NATO operations.


The key mission of JFC Brunssum concerns heading the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, NATO Response Force, and operational planning for NATO Article 5 collective defence tasks.
