Black box found from Lithuanian aircraft crash

On 31 August, the cockpit voice recorder often referred to as a “black box” from Lithuanian light attack aircraft L-39 ZA Albatross crash was detected in the vicinity of Šiauliai nearby Rėkyva Lake. The black box has been taken for further examination.

 

The investigation team is collecting data at the place of incident where the light attack aircraft L-39 ZA Albatross of the Lithuanian Air Force crashed down in a forested swamp on 30 August.

New Defence Attaché of France accredited to Lithuania

On 30 August, new French Defence Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Jean-Luc Lopez was accredited to Lithuania at the Ministry of National Defence.

 

The incoming Defence Attaché was congratulated by the Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas, representatives of the French Embassy, the Ministry of National Defence, as well as the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

Major General V. Vaikšnoras awarded State Award of France

On 29 August, while commemorating the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and France, Major General V. Vaikšnoras received the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of France.

 

Major General V. Vaikšnoras has been awarded for a significant contribution to the development of the Lithuanian-French partnership in the defence policy area.

NATO Air-policing mission will be taken over by Denmark

On 31 August, four Denmark Air Force fighters F-16 will land in Lithuanian Air Base from their permanent place of deployment in Danish Air Force Base located in Skrydstrupe.

 

On 2 September, Danish Air Contingent will replace the outgoing rotation of the Baltic Air Policing mission – French Air Force Contingent which guarded Baltic airspace since April.

On 30 August, at approx. 10 a.m., a Lithuanian Air Force light attack aircraft L-39 ZA Albatross collided midair with a French fighter aircraft Mirage 2000 C while on training flying operation in the Lithuanian Air Force Base located in the vicinity of Šiauliai, Northern Lithuania.

August 22-23, United States European Command (EUCOM) Plans, Policy and Strategy delegation led by Deputy Director Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery visited Lithuania. 

August 23, Rear Admiral M. Montgomery met the Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius, as well as representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and Armed Forces. During the visit Deputy Director also visited the Energy Security Centre, met with the Commander of the Public Security Service under the Ministry of Interior General of Inner Service Sergejus Madalovas.

22 August, late in the evening the first Air Force Advisory Team returned from Afghanistan by military aircraft “Spartan C27J” which landed in Lithuanian Air Force Air Base in Šiauliai.
 
Seven Lithuanian Air Force and two Latvian soldiers served in the first rotation of the Air Force Advisory Team (OPPG-1).OPPG-1 soldiers trained Afghanistan National Army soldiers to conduct squadron level air operations by helicopters. OPPG-1 rotation was changed by OPPG-2.

August 20, soldiers of Training Team operating in the composition of PRT-13, Afghanistan Ghor Province conducted a live firing exercise for nearly 50 soldiers of Afghan National Army (ANA) deployed in Chaghcharan. ANA soldiers were trained to conduct zeroing of automatic rifles and light machine guns M16 M249, live firing to targets from various shooting positions.
