Defence Attachés of the Netherlands to Lithuania rotated

Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas awarded to Cdr Hans de Brouwer, Defence Attaché of the Netherlands in Lithuania, after three years in office the National Defence System Medal of Merit, June 28.

 

At the ceremony Cdr (N) Jos Rozenburg, new Defence Attaché of the Netherlands, was accredited for four years in office.

 

Defence Attaché for Lithuania, also accredited for Latvia and Estonia, is based in the Hague (the Netherlands).

Chief of Defence of the Kingdom of Denmark Gen Knud Bartels is paying an official visit to Lithuania on June 27 and 28.

 

During the visit the guest has already met with Rasa Juknevičienė, Minister of National Defence, Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius, Chief of Defence of Lithuania, and other military representatives.

 

In the meeting with Denmark’s Chief of Defence Lithuanian Minister of National Defence highlighted the particular importance of Lithuania’s cooperation with the Nordic countries. R.Juknevičienė and Gen K. Bartels discussed the multinational operation in Afghanistan, the question of continuing the Baltic Air Policing mission, and cooperation between the Lithuanian and Danish Land Forces.

OSCE to visit Exercise AMBER HOPE

A delegation from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) was visiting Exercise Amber Hope at the Pabradė training area.

 

OSCE observers showed interest to observe how Lithuania is hosting this event and better to understand how Exercise Amber Hope will positively impact on the overall mission of the organisation. Lithuania became a member of the OSCE in 1992 and took over the Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in 2010.

Official ceremonies were held at the Pabradės Training Area and the Naval Flotilla (Klaipėda) on June 23 to close the largest exercise held in Lithuania this year Amber Hope 2011 (AH 11) which pulled over 2,000 military personnel from 9 countries for joint military action.

 

The closing ceremony at the Pabradės Training Area was attended by Mr. Vytautas Umbrasas, Vice Minister of National Defence, Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius, Chief of Defence of Lithuania, Maj Rimantas Venckus Chief Chaplain of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, military representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and other countries.

On June 22 Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania and the Commander-in-Chief of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, as well as the top management from the Ministry of National Defence and other guests visited the Pabradės Training Area of the Lithuanian Armed Forces where they were briefed on the Exercise goals, undergoing operations, tasks and principles of command of the multinational exercise Amber Hope 2011.

 

According to Rasa Juknevičienė, Minister of National Defence, exercises of such a scope help strengthen the country’s defence capabilities, contribute to the improvement of collective security, and test and evaluate capabilities of both the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the state in rendering Host Nation Support.

The Visitors and Media Day for multinational Exercise Amber Hope 2011 (AH11) will held at the Pabradės Training Area on June 22 at 10:00 a.m. Visitors and media will be given an opportunity to see segments of the Exercise itself, including training and other presentations.

 

Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania, Rasa Juknevičienė, Minister of National Defence, members of the Committee on National Security and Defence and the Seimas (the Parliament of Lithuania), Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius, Chief of Defence of Lithuania, Maj Gen Wesley E. Craig, Adjutant General of the US Pennsylvania National Guard are expected to attend the official Visitors and Media Day for multinational Exercise Amber Hope 2011. Component heads of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, ambassadors and defence attachés of participating countries, and other guests, are also planned to attend the event.

Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania approved draft law ensuring more transparency in organisation of public procurement in defence and security

On June 21 the Seimas approved draft law prepared by the Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of National Defence regulating public procurement in defence and security sector.

 

Provisions of the law will realize in the Lithuanian National Law the provisions of the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council of 2009. The Directive limits down the possibility for procuring countries and organisations to abuse exceptions of public procurement procedures allowed for in the EU documentation which are intended for protection of information related to such procurements whose secrecy is decisive for vital interests of states.

Lithuanian Minister of National Defence, Rasa Juknevičienė, will meet with the Adjutant General of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Maj Gen Wesley E. Craig, and his delegation on Monday, June 20.

 

The officials are expected to address Lithuanian National Defence Policy priorities, joint training events, operations in Afghanistan, energy and cyber security issues, and joint future projects.

Second Phase of Multinational Exercise Amber Hope 2011 is underway

The second phase of the multinational exercise Amber Hope 2011 (AH11) is underway since June 19. During this phase, Amber Hope Exercise Staff and all of the training elements will conduct exercises in accordance with an established scenario based on experiences gained by Lithuanian and other international partners in multinational operations. The fictitious crisis response operations will be executed at both the Pabradės Training Area and the Baltic Sea. This second and final phase will conclude on June 23.
