Ministry of National Defence call together representatives of Seimas, State Control and the UK Defence Ministry to discuss the project of procuring ”Hunt” class vessels

Representatives of the Defence Procurement Agency of the UK Defence Ministry visited Ministry of National Defence o February 26. On the initiative of the Ministry of National Defence they met with Saulius Peceliunas, member of National Security and Defence Committee of Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, and representatives of State Control. The meeting was held over the procurement project of two ”Hunt” class boats Lithuania intends to buy from the UK.

On February 26 Minister of National Defence Rasa Jukneviciene reviewed the report prepared by the Joint Staff of Lithuanian Armed Forces covering financial-economic activities developed by the units of Lithuanian Armed Forces in Afghanistan in the period of 2006-2008.

New patrol boat inaugurated and named in the Lithuanian Naval Force

imgFebruary 12, Minister of National Defence Rasa Jukneviciene visited Pentagon (Washington) and met with the US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates and Congressmen Democrat John Tanner (Tennessee) and Republican with Lithuanian background John Shimkus (Illinois). Summarising discussion outcome immediately after the meetings, R. Jukneviciene underlined that ”Talks in Washington made it obvious that the new administration of the USA is committed as firmly as previous administrations to security engagements to NATO and European allies, including Lithuania.”

Vytenis Battalion troops attend division movement control exercise in Holland

Two members of Vytenis Main Support Logistic Battalion (Marijampole) were sent to division movement control exercise in Holland from February 11 to 13. Lithuanian troops joined movement control groups and together with their Dutch colleagues organised the return of military units home to Holland from Germany after an exercise.

February 2-6, Brig. Gen. Algis Vaiceliunas, Chief of Joint Staff of Lithuanian Armed Forces, and delegation of Joint Staff and Department of International Relations and Operations of MoND visited Joint Operational Staffs of Italian and German Armed Forces. Lithuanian representatives met with leading authorities of Joint Operational Staffs of Germany and Italy, and were introduced of tasks, functions, structures and management of international operations performed by the Staffs.
