National air surveillance and defence to be upgraded

The Lithuanian Armed Forces (LAF) will strengthen its air surveillance and defence of national airspace, through the planned acquisition of two long range radar systems. The new equipment will change out three technically outdated Soviet manufactured P-37 and three P-18 long range radars.

Lithuanian armament experts sent on evaluation visit to Belarus

imgArmament experts from Lithuania will conduct first evaluation visit in Belarus this year on November 13. Inspectors will visit 206 Assault Aviation Base deployed in Lida. The visit is conducted under the Vienna Document 1999 and bilateral agreement between Lithuania and Russian Federation signed in 2001 on additional measures of security and confidence.

Victims of war commemorated in Klaipeda

Soldiers of the United Kingdom killed in World War I and buried in Vites cemetery in Klaipeda will be honored on November 9. The ceremony will be attended by representatives of the UK Embassy in Lithuania, platoon of Lithuanian Naval Force Staff Company, and trumpeter of Lithuanian Naval Force Band.

Minister of National Defence go to the EU Defence Ministers' meeting

On November 10 Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas will take part in the EU Defence Ministers' meeting in Brussels, Belgium. Within the framework of the meeting a joint session with the EU Foreign Affairs Ministers will be held as sitting of the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council.

Memory of the fallen for the freedom of Lithuania will be honoured at the Antakalnis Memorial in Vilnius on All Saints' Day, November 1. The ceremony of honouring Freedom Fighters will be attended by the President of the Republic of Lithuania H.E Valdas Adamkus, President of Georgia H.E. Mikheil Saakashvili, Minister of National Defence, representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and the Armed Forces, and troops of Lithuanian Armed Forces Guard of Honour.
