New Commander Naval Force assigned


Capt. (N) Olegas Marinicius will be assigned as new Commander of Lithuanian Naval Force on October 24, at the Fleet of Warships of the Lithuanian Naval Force.

The ceremony will be attended by the Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus, and others guests.

Capt. (N) O. Marinicius was born on 16 September 1964 in Klaipeda, Lithuania. He entered Kaliningrad Higher Naval School in 1981, the studies were followed by deployment to the Far East from 1986 to 1992. After the restoration of independence of Lithuania O.Marinicius joined the LNF Fleet as chief specialist-artilerist, in 1995 he was promoted to the Head of LNF Combat Readiness Division. Having commanded the Combat Warship Division and frigate ”Aukstaitis" (F 12) since 1997 he assumed the position of Deputy Commander of the Lithuanian Naval Force Staff in 1999. O.Marinicius was promoted to the Navy Captain military rank in 2004. He spent the past two years working as NATO Military Representative in Kiev, the Ukraine.

Capt. (N) O. Marinicius improved his qualification at the USA Naval War College, Naval Command College and Special Operations School, and NATO School in Oberammergau (Germany).

Excellent service of Capt. (N) O. Marinicius was recognized with the following decorations: 5th Class Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas, medals of National Defence System of Merit, for Distinction, and the medal of NATO Accession.

O. Marinicius has a wife, three sons and a granddaughter.
