Danish Land Force Commander and Head of the Lithuanian Special Mission visit soldiers in Ghowr

On November 24-27 sixth rotation of the Lithuanian-led Ghowr PRT was visited by the Danish Land Force Commander General Major Poul Kæskou and Head of the Lithuanian Special Mission Aleksandras Matonis with delegations. Guests met with the PRT-6 Commander Col. Albertas Kondrotas and PRT members. Commander of the PRT-6 briefed them on the main tasks, problems and threats in the PRT-6 responsibility area.

Chairman of NATO Military Committee visit Lithuania

Chairman of NATO Military Committee General Raymond Henault will come to Lithuania on November 28-30. He will be meeting top officials of Lithuanian Government and National Defence for discussions on the Lithuanian defence reforms, military operations of the Alliance and global security challenges.

Portuguese fighter F-16 training flight interrupted by undercarriage retraction failure

On November 27 Portuguese fighter F-16 was set down during a scheduled training flight at Siauliai Military Airfield because right wheel of the landing gear failed to retract. Aircraft was launched into a safe height over the airfield to consume all the fuel and then it was successfully landed.

Portuguese soldiers on Baltic Air policing mission cooperate with Lithuanian non-governmental organisations

Soldiers of the Portuguese Air Force that had taken up the Baltic Air policing mission on November 1 established contacts with non-governmental organisations of Lithuania. Three joint projects will be launched by the Portuguese Contingent and International Federation of Young Leaders and Businessmen ”JCI Lietuva" on November 26-28.

Formal homecoming ceremony of the PRT-5 soldiers in Taurage

Formal homecoming ceremony for the 5th Ghowr PRT rotation will take place on November 27 at 1:00 p.m. in Taurage Town Square. The ceremony will be attended by the National Defence Ministry Juozas Olekas, Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces General Lieutenant Valdas Tutkus, Land Force Commander Brigadier General Jonas Vytautas Zukas, top officials of national defence system subdivisions, relatives of the returned soldiers.

Prehospital life support courses organised at Military Medicine Service

imgIntroductory prehospital trauma life support (PHTLS) courses will be take place at the Military Medicine Service in Kaunas from November 26 to December 1 of 2007. This is the second joint project of National Defence and Health Ministries in implementing state trauma prevention programme for 2000-2010.

Special Operations Unit ”Aitvaras" members rotate in southern Afghanistan

Lithuanian soldiers in Afghanistan celebrate Lithuanian Armed Forces Day

imgLithuanian soldiers deployed to Ghowr, Afghanistan, marked Lithuanian Armed Forces Day on November 22. The event was opened by a solemn line formation, Commander of Ghowr PRT-6 Col. Albertas Kondrotas congratulated soldiers with the Lithuanian Armed Forces Day and presented with small souvenirs - flashlights with PRT-6 emblem. After the line formation Mass was celebrated in the chapel Chaplain Capt. Edvardas Baniulis had built himself in the tent for the Lithuanian soldiers and their relatives and friends back home. Afterwards PRT-6 members were invited to spend the evening in the new canteen of the camp and to see the film about the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
