Preparation of Ghowr PRT-6 for deployment to military mission in Afghanistan has reached its halfway.

Soldiers have already brushed up their individual basic soldier skills, attended combat firing exercise in Pabrade central military ground, listened to lectures on culture and customs in Afghanistan, got acquainted with security conditions in the mission area, and learnt other relevant things since July. Currently collective skills refresher course is underway. The three-month preparation for the mission will end by an evaluative exercise in October.

The PRT-6 soldiers are instructed by experienced professionals from various force units who have taken part in Afghanistan and Iraq missions. Members of PRT-4 that has come back in May also share their experience with their counterparts.

PRT-6 is based on the King Mindaugas Motorised Infantry Battalion (Panevezys district) Motorised Infantry Brigade ”Iron Wolf". The soldiers have already been deployed to peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Iraq.

Personnel of PRT-6 also includes soldiers from Training and Doctrines Command, General Adolfas Ramanauskas Warfare Training Centre, General Jonas Zemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy, Military Medical Service, Logistics Support Command, Grand Duchess Birute Motorised Infantry Battalion, Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion, and Duke Vaidotas Forward Support Logistics Battalion. PRT-6 will be lead by the commander of Mindaugas Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Mindaugas Kondrotas.

The Lithuanian-led PRT mission was launched in June 2005. Its main task is extending Afghan authority, ensuring security, and creating environment for development in the province. The Lithuanian-led Ghowr PRT, joint civil-military mission, operates as part of NATO ISAF operation in Afghanistan.
