Active phase of the Amber Hope to start

imgOn Monday, 25 June, in Klaipëda, an active phase of the international exercise commenced at the Kairiai Training Area. During the active phase, the participating military personnel will apply their peacekeeping actions skills that have been acquired by them during the first week of the exercise through the participation in an improvised international mission conducted under the exercise scenario that was developed in advance before the start of the exercise.

Jonas and Johns to be honoured during the Exercise Amber Hope 2007

Thirty persons with the names Jonas, Janis, Jans, John, Janus, Ivan will become the most important participants of the exercise Amber Hope 2007 on Saturday, 23 June. On the eve of St. Jonas‘day (in Lithuanian: Joninës), more than 1,000 military personnel representing 10 countries will take part in the St. Jonas' day festivities to be specially organised for them at the Kairiai Training Area.

Canadian military personnel to pay honour to their compatriot who lost his life during WWII in Lithuania

On Thursday, 21 June the Canadian military personnel who are attending the multinational exercise Amber Hope 2007 in Klaipeda will pay honour to their compaptriot, the Canadian Royal Air Force first rank warrant officer Keith Oliver Perry, who lost his life during WWII in Lithuania.

International Exercise ”Amber Hope 2007" begins

The opening ceremony of the exercise will take place at Kairiai Polygon in Klaipeda on June 19. The opening ceremony should be attended by the authorities of National Defence Ministry and Armed Forces: National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas, organiser of the exercise Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Brigadier General Valdas Tutkus, conductor of the exercise Field Force Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces General Major Arvydas Pocius, Military Ordinary Bishop Eugenijus Bartulis, and other Lithuanian and foreign guests.

Volunteer soldiers return from the ”Lion Sun 2007" Exercise

imgOn June 15 a 32-soldier platoon is coming back from a two-week exercise ”LION SUN 2007" that has taken place in Wales, the United Kingdom. The platoon is made up of National Defence Volunteer Force (NDVF) the First territorial unit of Dainava County (Alytus district) soldiers led by the First Lieutenant Aurelijus Selimavičius.

Defence Minister Juozas Olekas touched important issues at the NATO defence ministers' meeting

”NATO should take up an active role in ensuring energetic security", Lithuanian defence minister Juozas Olekas said in the official NATO defence ministers' meeting in Brussels on June 15. NATO ministers agreed with invitations to closer cooperation in the sector of energetic and cybernetic security.

The first visit of the Irish Naval Service patrol vessel ”Niamh"

On June 19 at about 9 a.m. Irish Naval Service patrol ship ”Niamh" (P52) will moor for the first time at the quay of terminal of cruisers and warships in Klaipeda. The second of Roisin class vessels is crewed with 44 sailors and officers.

National Defence Minister to participate in NATO defence ministers' meeting

On June 14-15 National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and his delegation will take part in the official meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels (Belgium). The ministers will consider the most important NATO issues: antimissile defence, participation in international issues and strengthening NATO capabilities.
