After missions volunteer troops consider professional military career

From January 30 to February 1 Commander of Lithuanian Land Forces Brigadier General Arvydas Pocius was visiting Lithuanian soldiers on NATO peacekeeping force (KFOR) operation in Kosovo. General brought gifts to the soldiers from Lithuania, discussed with them their everyday duties, problems, and future plans, joined them in patrolling the Lithuanian area of responsibility.

During the meeting Undersecretary R.Norkus and J.Raeder discussed participation of Lithuania and Sweden in international operations, defensive cooperation of Nordic and Baltic countries, relations of NATO and EU, NATO partnership policy, and other issues.

imgBaltic and Nordic Army Commanders meeting was closed on January 29 in Palanga. Commander of Lithuanian Army General Major Valdas Tutkus represented to the guests the BALTBAT project. „Experts from the three Baltic States will make the decision which country - Lithuania, Latvia, or Estonia - is to be responsible for particular BALTBAT capabilities this year. I believe that by the end of the year we will be able to talk about specific contribution of the countries to the structure of the battalion", Maj. Gen. V.Tutkus said.

Meeting of Baltic and Nordic Armed Forces Commanders in Lithuania

On January 29 the two-day meeting of Baltic and Nordic Armed Forces Commanders is opened in Palanga. Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Finish Force Commanders will discuss security situation in the Baltic and Nordic region, guidelines of military cooperation, participation in international peace-keeping operations and contribution to NATO and EU Response Force.

NATO Generals' Conference in Lithuania

imgYesterday, January 23, the two-day annual conference of NATO North Europe Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) commanders was concluded in Lithuania. 15 Generals focused their attention on Air Police issues. They looked at the situation of Baltic States Air Police Mission. The attendees also considered NATO Response Force formation issues, and possibilities of NATO Force expansion in ISAF Mission for south and southeast Afghanistan. They discussed modernisation of Combined Air Operations Centre and technical development of the unmanned aircrafts system.

The first micro hydro-electrical power station built on Lithuanian funds started functioning in Ghowr

imgThe first hydro-electrical power plant built on Lithuanian funds was opened in the settlement of Sang Bar of Afghanistan's Ghowr province on January 19. The new plant will provide electricity power for approximately 200 households of the settlement.

Interaction and cooperation are very important concepts in pursuing common goal and satisfactory results," General A.Satta stressed in his speech. During the meting Col. A.
