Hungarian Defence Attaché to Lithuania to be awarded the Medal for Merits



On Thursday, 30 March, at the Ministry of National Defence, the Hungarian Defence Attaché to Lithuania, Colonel Peter Nagy, was awarded the Medal for Merits.


During an official ceremony, Lithuania's National Defence System level decoration – Medal for Merits – was conferred on Colonel Nagy in recognition of his outstanding contribution to strengthening bilateral co-operation between the Hungarian and Lithaunian Armed Forces. The decoration was presented by Lithuanian National Defence Ministry's Undersecretary Valdemaras Sarapinas. The event was also attended by the Hungarian Ambassador to Lithuania, HE Sandor Juhasz.


The third Hungarian Defence Attaché Colonel Peter Nagy was accredited to represent the Hungarian Armed Forces to Lithuania in 2002. He was based to Tallinn, Estonia, and currently - to Budapest, Hungary.


In 1997 the Ministries of Defence of Hungary and Lithuania signed an agreement on bilateral co-operation in the field of defence. A bilateral co-operation plan is signed between the parties on an annual basis. The activity plan for the present year covers arrangement of bilateral talks and expert consultation in the fields of law, airspace surveillance, military topography, logistics and medicine related issues.
