Lithuanian Navy Force Commander to visit Navy of Spain

imgCommander of the Lithuanian Navy Fleet's Admiral Kestutis Macijauskas is to make the first visit to the Spanish Navy from October 29 to November 1 on the invitation of Spanish Navy Commander Admiral Sebastian Zaragoza. During the meeting admiral S.Zaragoza will share the experience of Spanish Navy in operating as part of NATO Response Force. Such instructions are highly appreciated as Lithuania is assigning a Counterminer to NATO Response Force next year. Generally Spanish Navy allocates frigates, staff support ships, and mine hunters/weepers to such NATO Forces.

Canadian Land Force Commander visit Lithuanian Mobile Army

Commander Land Force of the Canadian Forces Lieutenant-General Andrew Leslie will visit Lithuania on invitation of Lithuanian Land Forces Commander Brigadier General Arvydas Pocius. On October 26 the guest arrived straight from the NATO European Armies Conference where he read announcement on the experience of participation in international operations.

Canadian soldiers will donate computers to the students of Jonava High School

Rukla, LITHUANIA – Representatives from the contingent of Canadian soldiers participating in Exercise Maple Arch 2006 will present laptop computers to Senamiescio (Old Town) Gymnasium school in Jonova, Lithuania, at 1300 hours, October 26, 2006. Media are invited to attend this event, and a brief opportunity will be provided to speak with Major Paul Lockhart, Canadian Contingent Commander for Exercise Maple Arch 2006.

Canadian and Lithuanian paratroopers swap 'chutes

Canadian and Lithuanian military paratroopers exchanged parachutes and conducted a jump as part of Exercise Maple Arch 2006 in Rukla, Lithuania on October 23, 2006. Twenty members of The Royal Canadian Regiment, 3rd Battalion, swapped equipment with their Lithuanian counterparts and jumped from an An-2 aircraft and MI-8 helicopter into clear skies over the military training area. After numerous jumps into the sandy dunes of Drop Zone ”Marshmallow", parachute specialists from the two nations exchanged jump wings in a ceremony at the end of the day.

European Armies Conference

The annual European Armies Conference sponsored by the U.S. Army will take place in Heidelberg, Germany, on October 24-26. Lithuania will be represented by the Lithuanian Land Forces Commander Brigadier General Arvydas Pocius.

Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence J.Raguckiene will attend NATO Conference of National Armaments Directors

imgInterim State Secretary of the Minister of National Defence Jurate Raguckiene will take part in the NATO Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD) in Brussels, Belgium. The participating representatives from 26 countries will dispute one of the crucial issues – the project of Alliance Ground Surveillance equipment development and purchasing; and counterterrorism measures, NATO Special Operation Force capabilities and needs, and other questions.

NATO funded reconstruction of the main Siauliai Military Airport infrastructure finished

imgA solemn Siauliai Military Airport opening ceremony is planned on 26 October in Airforce Aviation Basis. Implementation of the main runway reconstruction project concludes a year and a half's session of Siauliai Military Airport infrastructure extension. The solemn event will be attended by the Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas, the Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas the Commander of the Armed Forces Major General Valdas Tutkus, the Commander of the Air Force Colonel Arturas Leita, other representatives of the system of National Defence, the authorities of the Aviation Basis, and distinguished visitors.

The sixth international exercise ”Baltic Fox–06" in Telsiai

imgAn international staff exercise ”Baltic Fox-06" is held in Telsiai on October 23-27 with Lithuania's National Defence Volunteer Force (NDVF), Latvia's ”Zemessardze", and Estonia's ”Kaitseliit" as participants. A total of 50 troops take part in the exercise: 30 from the 3rd Special Team of Zemaiciu district, NDVF (Klaipeda), nine Estonian soldiers, and seven from the Volunteer Force of Latvia. The exercise is headed by Major Dainius Janenas.

The „Maple Arch” participants fulfilled the task of parachute jumping

One of the tasks the participants of the ”Maple Arch" exercise had to perform was parachute jumping, Rukla, October 23. Over 20 Canadian and Lithuanian soldiers performed 300-400 metre height jumps from An-2 and Mi-8.
