Romania has confirmed its contribution to the NATO's air-policing mission over the Baltic States

On Wednesday, 3 May the Romanian Minister of Defence Teodor Atanasiu, who is currently visiting Lithuania with an official two-day visit, during his meeting with the Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Gediminas Kirkilas confirmed that Romania would contribute to an air-policing mission over the Baltic States in 2007. During the meeting, which was held at the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, the Ministers also discussed the on-going bilateral military co-operation between Lithuania and Romania, a security situation in South Eastern Europe, support of Ukraine, as well as of Moldova, in their aspirations to join NATO, and the involvement of the both countries in international operations. The Lithuanian Minister of National Defence invited Romania to join the mission of the Lithuanian-led Ghor Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan.

Romanian Minister of Defence to visit Lithuania

On Wednesday, 3 May the Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Gediminas Kirkilas is due to meet with the Romanian Minister of Defence Teodor Atanasiu, who comes to Lithuania with a two-day visit. During a meeting, the Ministers are scheduled to focus on a bilateral military co-operation between Lithuania and Romania, the countries' involvement in international operations and to discuss a security related situation in South Eastern Europe and the Baltic Region

NATO Commanders of Land Force to attend conference in Canada

On 1-3 May, an annual conference of Commanders of Land Forces of NATO states, entitled ”Challenges and Commitments" will be taking place in Quebec, Canada. The meeting will be attended by commanders of operational military forces of all NATO member states. While at the conference, Lithuania will be represented by the Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force, Brigadier General Arvydas Pocius. Together with commanders of land forces of other countries, he will take part in working talks; he will also give a report on ”Experience gained by the Lithuania-led Ghor Provincial Reconstruction Team in the International Security Assistance Force." In his report, Brg Gen Pocius will give a brief insight into the process of settlement of two rotations of the provincial reconstruction teams and execution of military tasks as well as emerging tasks and methods for their solution.
