Accreditation of the new Swiss Defence Attaché to Lithuania


On Thursday, 26 January a ceremony relating to the accreditation of the new Swiss Defence Attaché to Lithuania Lieutenant Colonel Reto P. Senn was held in the Black Hall of the Ministry of National Defence. The new Swiss DA will be based in Stockholm, Sweden.


The accreditation ceremony was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of National Defence and Armed Forces.


Lithuania has been co-operating with the Swiss Ministry of Defence for several years so far, in particular in the area of security studies and military training. On an annual basis, Switzerland has been offering to Lithuania one place each to nine-month international security policy, four-month European security policy, three-month courses on new security challenges and short-term courses for defence attaches.


As of 1998 Lithuania has been offered a month long courses for company, battalion commanders and battalion level staff officers and non-commissioned officers. Until March 2005 Swiss officers-instructors have been delivering courses at the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) in Tallinn, Estonia.


As of 2000, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence has been participating in the  activity of the Fund established by the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces.
