Ministry of National Defence denies media reports on purportedly committed violation of Lithuania's airspace

The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence has denied media reports on purportedly committed violation of Lithuania's airspace by a civilian aircraft of another state. ”No violation of the Lithuanian airspace has been reported on 12 October,” said Chief of Staff of the Lithuanian Air Force, Colonel Edmundas Adomynas.

Russian military aircraft crashed in the territory of Lithuania

imgOn Thursday, 15 September, at approximately 1500 hrs (local time), a Russian military aircraft fell down and crashed in Jotyškiai village, Šakiai region, in the western part of Lithuania. According to preliminary data, the aircraft to crash was fighter aircraft Su 27. The aircraft pilot has not been injured; he managed to catapult. The pilot was transported for inquiry to the Jurbarkas Police Station.

Lithuanian and Austrian Ministers of Defence to meet in Vilnius

On 1-2 August Austrian Minister of Defence Günther Platter and him accompanying delegation will be on a visit to Lithuania. On 1 September the Austrian delegation will meet with Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Gediminas Kirkilas. The meeting is expected to address the European Union's defence policy, development prospects of EU battle groups, the EU – NATO co-operation, participation of the countries in international operations and prospects of bilateral military co-operation.

German Air Force Commander to visit the Air Base of the Lithuanian Air Force

Between 31 August - 1 September Commander of the German Air Force Lieutenant General Klaus-Peter Stieglitz and him accompanying Air Regiment Colonel Achim Ritzel will be with a visit to the Siauliai Air Base of the Lithuanian Air Force.

 

While in Siauliai, visitors are scheduled to meet with Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Colonel Jonas Marcinkus and senior officers of the Air Base; they also are scheduled to visit the German Air Force Detachment deployed to Siauliai to execute NATO air policing mission in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
