Lithuanian Air Force members to attend international exercise Cooperative Key 2005


As of 24 August the Lithuanian Air Force's transport aircraft An-26 and helicopter Mi-8 MTV will be attending an international exercise Cooperative Key 2005 in Bulgaria. At the exercise, Lithuanian service members will execute tasks of medical evacuation, search and rescue as well as airlifting of military and non-military personnel.

The primary aim of the exercise is to develop relations among NATO and Partnership for Peace program members, improve skills in joint actions responding to crisis situations, enhancing interoperability of participation in peacekeeping operations.


The exercise, which is scheduled to last to 5 September, will involve participants from 13 NATO member states and 9 Partnership for Peace program nations. The exercise will also be attended by representatives of Mauritania and Russia at some stages of the exercise in the capacity of observers.
