New forms of military co-operation between Lithuania and Sweden to be discussed in Stockholm

On Tuesday, 21 June the Lithuanian National Defence Minister Gediminas Kirkilas will be with an official visit to Sweden. The schedule for the Minister's visit will include meetings with the Swedish Minister of Defence Leni Bjorklund, Minister of Foreign Affairs Urban Ahlin, Vice-Chairman of Defence Committee Tone Tinsgard, and visit to the Peacekeeping Operations Centre.

The meeting will focus on issues covering security and defence policy, participation of the countries in international operations, crisis management and possible new forms of bilateral co-operation.

Sweden is the country to have donated the largest amount of ammunition and armaments to Lithuania within the recent ten years. All key bilateral projects in the field of defence have already been accomplished, except for medical assistance related project BALTMED, which is scheduled to be accomplished in autumn later this year.

The Lithuanian Minister of National Defence is expected back to Lithuanian in the evening of Tuesday, 21 June.
