Lithuanian military officer to receive an honourable US award


On Wednesday, 22 June, in Vilnius, at an official ceremony, which was held at the Ministry of National Defence, the US Ambassador to Lithuania Stephen Mull awarded the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel Gediminas Grina.

Lieutenant Colonel Grina was awarded the Legion of Merit (Degree of Officer) decoration of the President of the United States of America, authorised by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, for his exceptionally meritorious service during his term of service as Lithuanian Defence, Military, Naval and Air Attache to the United States from October 2001 to August 2004.


"Through the firm support he provided on a daily basis as Military Attache, he influenced and strengthened the bonds of military-to-military friendship between the United States and Lithuania, " states the letter of award signed by the US Secretary of Defence Donald H. Rumsfeld.


Currently, Colonel Romualdas Petkevičius serves as Lithuanian Defence Attache to the United States.
